Prof. Guo Huadong attended the EU-China Science and Technology Week and presented a keynote speech on EU-China Science and Technology tie and natural disaster mitigation.

In the opening ceremony, Prof. Guo reviewed the long-term partnership between CEODE and EU institutions on the field of health, energy, environment and space, and the EU Joint Research Center (JRC) on the implementation of natural catastrophe reduction in particular, and called for an intensive cooperation to serve the common interests of the S&T institutions.　

In the keynote speech of “Global Natural Disaster Mitigation” presented in the subsequent forum, Prof. Guo introduced the scientific understanding of disaster mechanism, analyzed the scientific issues of disaster occurrence, stressed fundamental and comprehensive high-tech studies, and put forward some further perspectives on Natural Disaster Mitigation.

The 4-day EU-China Science and Technology Week, organized as part of the European Union Pavilion at the World Expo 2010 Shanghai, China, has brought together over 500 leading scientists, journalists and representatives of industry, academia and government from the European Union and China, to share knowledge, experience and aspirations.

The newly appointed Executive Director of the new Integrated Research on Disaster Risk (IRDR) programme, Jane Rovins, also participated in this event.
