The International Symposium on Earth Observation for Arid and Semi-Arid Environments (ISEO 2012) with the theme of Earth Observation Illuminating Central Asia is to be held in Kashgar, Xinjiang, China on September 18-21, 2012. It will represent a major event in the long series of the globally recognized International Symposia on Digital Earth (ISDE) . The symposium will cover topics in all areas related to Earth Observation systems and technology for understanding and managing the Earth environment and natural resources as well as natural disasters in the arid and semi-arid regions such as the Central Asia.

ISEO 2012 is aimed to provide an international platform for academic and professional exchange and collaboration on Earth observation. It will also offer a platform for describing and discussing new Earth observation programs in all countries of the world. Moreover, the latest developments in the setting up of interoperable Earth observation and spatial data infrastructures through international arrangements are also included in the symposium's program.

ISEO 2012 is jointly organized by the Center for Earth Observation and Digital Earth (CEODE), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the International Society for Digital Earth (ISDE).
