The first surveillance and extended audit on the quality management system (QMS) of CEODE was carried out by a team of four auditors from Xinshidai Quality Certification Center from August 19 to 21, 2009. For the first time, the five divisions under the CEODE Airborne Remote Sensing Center were brought into the QMS system and received their primary audit.

CEODE held a welcome meeting for the auditors on the afternoon of August 18. Present at the meeting were CEODE officials, including Guo Huadong, Zhang Bing, Wang Xiaoming, Liu Jianbo, Liu Yongwei and Li An, as well as its leading researchers, division chiefs and internal auditors. Guo extended a warm welcome to the auditors on behalf of the Center.

In the following two days, the audit team headed by Ma Yanling examined, by means of sampling, the quality management activities at different divisions of CEODE, including the administration office, the S&T office, the human resources and education office, the finance division, the Aerial Remote Sensing Center and various research groups according to the standards prescribed in GJB9001A-2001, GB/T19001-2000 and relevant laws and statutes.

During the summing-up meeting on August 21, the auditors agreed that the QMS of CEODE was in conformity with the standards prescribed in GB/T19001-2000 (civil), and that the operation of CEODE was basically effective. After the Center had corrected all its unqualified activities, the team proposed for the registration of its QMS for 2009. In addition to the already registered items such as “the design, development, integration and services of the ground reception and processing system of remote sensing satellites” and “data reception, processing and services of remote sensing satellites,” the team was going to confer the quality certification to two more quality activities at CEODE, i.e. “safeguard for flight correction experiment on airborne and spaceborne remote sensors” and “the acquisition, processing and services of remote sensing spatial data.”

Since CEODE has successfully passed the surveillance and extended audit of its QMS for 2009, the quality consciousness of the whole staff is greatly enhanced, which will lay a sound foundation for the Center’s daily operation and the application for mapping qualification in the near future.
