From 4-7 June, the 4th Workshop on Hyperspectral Image and Signal Processing: Evolution in Remote Sensing (WHISPERS 2012) was held in Shanghai. More than 200 participants from over 20 countries were present. The Whispers 2012 was hosted by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS), and co-organized by Tongji University, Wuhan University, the Center for Earth Observation and Digital Earth (CEODE, CAS), and Nanjing University.

On the morning of 5 June, CEODE Deputy Director ZHANG Bing gave an address as the Program Chair of WHISPERS 2012. He introduced the workshop’s significance and aims and delivered a report on the papers submission, review and acceptance. Some of CEODE’s young researchers attended the workshop as well, making three special reports.

The Workshop on Hyperspectral Image and Signal Processing: Evolution in Remote Sensing is an annual meeting of professionals in the field of the hyperspectral remote sensing. The first three workshops were held in France, Iceland and Portugal, and the next one will convene in Florida, USA.
