On 8 June, the Executive Director of the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS), Romain Murenzi, visited CEODE. He was accompanied by FU Shuqin, Director of the TWAS Beijing Office of the Bureau for International Cooperation, CAS.
The guests first watched videos on the Digital Earth Science Platform and visited the satellite ground control hall to see the operation and control system of CEODE’s ground station network. They also visited the international organizations hosted by CEODE. Executive Director of ISDE WANG Changlin, HIST Deputy Director HONG Tianhua and Executive Director of the IRDR IPO Jane Rovins gave reports on the three international organizations’ development and international cooperation.
Afterwards, CEODE representatives held a meeting with Murenzi. CEODE Director-General GUO Huadong gave an introduction to CEODE, the operation of national scientific and technological infrastructure, and current progress in science, research, and international cooperation. GUO welcomed young scientists from Africa to actively participate in training activities for the purpose of jointly improving the capacity building of developing countries. Murenzi recognized CEODE’s strength in the aspects of scientific research and international cooperation and introduced TWAS. He expressed that TWAS would attach importance to the training of young scientists from developing countries with the development of science and technology. A communication platform would be built by inviting the experts of different countries and research areas to work at TWAS.
TWAS was founded in 1983 in Trieste, Italy. As an autonomous international organization, TWAS has been committed to supporting and promoting research activities in developing countries, encouraging the research of developing countries’ common issues and promoting exchange and cooperation between researchers and the scientific research institutes of different developing countries. TWAS is aiming at improving scientific and research strength and cultivating promising scientists so as to foster the development of basic sciences and applied sciences.
