On 14 March, the Director of the Kyrgyz National Academy of Sciences Institute of Geology, Kadyrbek Sakiev, visited CEODE.

Prof. Kadyrbek Sakiev watched videos on the Digital Earth Science Platform and Miyun Ground Station's real-time operations and visited the satellite ground control hall to see the operation and control system of the station network. After listening to reports on the scientific and technologic work of CEODE and Kashgar Ground Station by Prof. LIU Yongwei and Prof. FU Bihong, the delegates held a meeting.

Prof. Kadyrbek Sakiev spoke highly of CEODE’s research strength and advanced facilities. He also gave a general introduction to the Institute of Geology of the Kyrgyz National Academy of Sciences and stated that Kyrgyzstan still had much room for development in the field of Earth observation, noting that space-based Earth observation holds promising prospects for geoscience research in Central Asia. CEODE’s representatives hoped the both sides could strengthen cooperation in research on Central Asia’s resources, environment and disasters and create effective communication mechanisms to promote the application of Earth observation technology in Central Asia. Prof. Kadyrbek Sakiev was invited to the International Symposium on Earth Observation for Arid and Semi-Arid Environments to be held in Kashgar, Xinjiang, China, in September 2012.

After the meeting, CEODE Deputy Director ZHANG Bing exchanged thoughts with Prof. Kadyrbek Sakiev on how to develop the geographic advantages of Kyrgyzstan and jointly participate in the International Symposium on Earth Observation for Arid and Semi-Arid Environments. On behalf of CEODE, Prof. LIU Yongwei presented remote sensing images compiled by CEODE of the five Central Asian countries and Kashgar. Prof. LIN Qizhong and other staff were also present.
