Chinese National Committee of the International Society for Digital Earth Convenes the Second Session of its First Meeting

On 18 July, the Chinese National Committee of the International Society for Digital Earth (CNISDE) convened the second session of its first meeting at China People’s Palace Hotel. More than 60 CNISDE members and experts from related fields were present. CNISDE President GUO Huadong presided over the meeting.

LIANG Yingnan, Deputy Director-General of the Department of International Affairs of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST); WANG Qinmin, CNISDE Deputy President and the vice secretary general of CCPPCC; LI Pengde, CNISDE Deputy President and Deputy-Director of the National Administration of Surveying, Mapping and Geoinformation; and LIAO Xiaohan, CNISDE Deputy President and Deputy Director of the High Technology and Industrialization Department of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), were present and gave addresses. The Executive Director of the International Society Digital Earth (ISDE), WANG Changlin, read a congratulatory letter to the committee and gave a working report on behalf of ISDE.

During the meeting, CNISDE Secretary-General LIU Yongwei gave a CNISDE working report, and discussed revisions to the constitution of CNISDE. Afterwards, LIANG awarded GUO the certification for CNISDE President and GUO awarded certifications to the three Deputy Presidents. The meeting passed a resolution establishing the Hyperspectral Earth Observation Committee, Digital Disaster Reduction Committee, Digital Natural and Cultural Heritage Committee, Microwave Remote Sensing Committee, and LiDAR Committee of CNISDE. The meeting’s attendees also passed five resolutions and listened to the working reports.

CNISDE’s work plan was explored at the meeting. The experts present recognized the work accomplished since the establishment of CNISDE and put forward new demands for future development. GUO pointed out that deepening the construction of Digital Earth Science was an important task for CNISDE to shoulder from a strategic standpoint.

CNISDE is an academic organization of China established in October 2006. It joined the ISDE on behalf of China with the purpose of serving national economic and social development, organizing scientists together for academic exchanges, and developing theories, technology and applications in the field of Digital Earth.
