In order to mark the first anniversary of the Beijing Olympics, the Center for Earth Observation and Digital Earth (CEODE) sent two remote sensing (RS) airplanes to conduct a high-resolution airborne RS monitoring assignment of the northern urban areas in Beijing, Zhongguancun and the core zones of the Olympic venues for instance.

The acquisition of high-resolution RS images within the priority ranges of aerial RS surveys, as well as the accumulation of comparable results of dynamic RS monitoring in the last eight years, were dedicated to furthering the cause of Post-Olympic environmental RS mornitoring. Furthermore, it devoted itself to demonstrating Beijing urban construction achievements and environmental improvement throughout the past 60 years.

With a total volume of 150 GB, various RS 0.4-meter images (i.e. color, infrared, black and white) were captured by means of UCXp digital RS airborne photography system.

With the information they obtained in the past eight years, the scientists made a comparative analysis on the conditions of the Beijing eco-environment changes which could recognized as a scientific support for the decision-makers and a gift for the 60th National Anniversary.
