A meeting to review the detailed design of the Water Environment Remote Sensing Application System, which is a subsystem of the Micro-satellite Constellation for Monitoring and Forecasting Environment and Disasters Application System, convened on January 6th at the Center for Earth Observation and Digital Earth (CEODE). Wang Qiao, Deputy Director of the Satellite Environment Center, Ministry of Environmental Protection, chaired the meeting and experts from the Ministry of Environmental Protection attended.

The panel of experts had in-depth communication and discussion after listening to reports of both general and detailed designs of the subsystem. The panel gave a positive evaluation to the subsystem because of its stable operation, comprehensive functions and friendly user interface. The subsystem smoothly passed the review in the end since it satisfied the demands of regular operations in the Satellite Environment Center, Ministry of Environmental Protection. Yan Dongmei, Director of the Science and Technology Department of CEODE, appreciated the suggestions and support from experts. Zhang Bing, project leader of the subsystem and Deputy Director of CEODE, signified that the project team will keep moving and take efforts to complete follow-up tasks to meet the requirements of acceptance checks.

In the morning, Wu Guozeng, director of the Satellite Environment Center, Ministry of Environmental Protection, visited the Miyun ground station accompanied by Zhang Bing, and watched the real-time quick view and data receiving process of the Micro-satellite for Monitoring and Forecasting Environment and Disasters. Wu appreciated the accurate and timely satellite data received by CEODE, which firmly sustain the monitoring and law enforcement work of the Ministry of Environmental Protection.

As a subsystem of the Micro-satellite Constellation for Monitoring and Forecasting Environment and Disasters Application System, the Water Environment Remote Sensing Application System is responsible for the collection and application of remote sensing information related to water pollution. This subsystem mainly utilizes data from environment satellites to collect and analyze water pollution information in different kinds of water environments such as large inland water bodies, estuary waters of large rivers, water sources of cities, water heat pollution sources and nonpoint source pollution. The subsystem is capable of evaluating water pollution with high efficiency and providing technical support for remotely sensing and monitoring water environments.
